Too close for comfort!

Herriman is such a quite calm and fun city, I guess that is why we chose to move here! Usually all you can here are the birds chirping and kids laughing and playing up and down the streets! But on Sunday all of Herriman was singing a different tune! The sound of birds and laughter was replaced by Sirens and panic! What started as a little puff of smoke that we were joking about with my family turned into walls of fire and people trying to pack up there most important possessions or whatever would fit into there cars! The air filled with dark smoke and ash! We were over to Damon and Jamilla's for a wonderful celebration dinner and before we had left saw the smoke, but it seemed so far away so we weren't worried! But as we got closer and closer to our home we noticed that the hill only about 4 or 5 streets above our house had flames starting to come down it and the west hill was completely on fire! I started to feel a little panic, but tried to keep calm to not scare my already concerned kids! As we drove through the streets our truck filled with the smell of smoke like it had been close to a camp fire! As soon as we got home we tried to decide if we should leave now or just wait. We grabbed a small suitcase and filled it with pajamas and essentials. We then grabbed our hard drive from our computer with all our pictures on it and our birds and dog. At this point we could here the police the street above us saying "out of your homes now" so we decided it was time for us to leave! We packed up the truck and headed to Josh's parents house! Driving down the neighbor hood road was very eerie, as we watched our neighbors packing up there cars with belongings! We were so lucky to be able to have good family close instead of having to stay at the high school like many people did! I couldn't hardly sleep all night as I kept turning on the news to find out what was going on! The next afternoon we made our way back to our house to see if we were able to get into our neighborhood yet and luckily we were! The road right behind us though wasn't so lucky and I think a few of them are still on evacuation! This morning as I am cleaning my house, the chores that seemed so horrible before aren't so bad anymore and I looked around and was so thankful for everything I still have! I am so thankful to all the men and woman who have been working so hard to keep the fire away from our homes! The have risks there lives for us! Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers and concerns! We are doing great! Here are some pictures that were taken from our back yard!

This was when the fire was still at the top of the hill, it made it all the way to the bottom of that hill

A very lucky house on the hill by us that was burnt all the way around but the house was saved
